Hey all, I'm new to linux and to wine, and I was helping if I could get some help. I used a clean installation of wine (1.0.1.1 or something) on Ubuntu 9.10 and tried to install Half-Life. I updated all the way to 1.1.1.2, and the program wouldn't start up. At all. I ran wine manually through the console and it was telling me some files were missing! Great. Anyways, I uninstalled HL and reinstalled, but the graphics were all messed. The entire intro video played in about 0.2 seconds, then froze for the rest of the sound of the video. Then it did the same thing for the Valve intro. Then, the graphics were jerky and when I played a new game, the screen was black. Completely unplayable.
If anyone could help me out, I would greatly appreciate it.
Recap - Specs:
wine 1.1.1.0
Ubuntu 9.10
Half-Life 1.1.1.2 - didn't work
Default installation of Half-Life (pre-1.1.1.0) had screwy graphics
Half-Life Installation Issues
Re: Half-Life Installation Issues
No such version. If you mean 1.1.1, that's still too old. The current development release is 1.1.43. Upgrade to that.Skyline969 wrote: wine 1.1.1.0

Re: Half-Life Installation Issues
Sorry, I had meant 1.1.3.1. It's the newest version my current sources had. I'll add the development source and get 1.1.43 then. Should that fix things, or should I just go to wine-1.2?dimesio wrote:No such version. If you mean 1.1.1, that's still too old. The current development release is 1.1.43. Triple post... terribly sorry. This is new... "Half-Life requires Service Pack 3 or above." Yes I'm using Windows XP as my mode. Windows 7 gives me an "hl.exe experienced an error... blah blah blah" message. As does Windows Vista. Windows 2000 does it, but then it gives me a "please insert the CD" message. However, it DOES go to the menu (which is slightly garbled in terms of graphics). I'm updating to 1.1.1.0 now.
Ok... more problems. When I start a game, it goes to my desktop in 640x480 mode, and starts playing the sounds like the game is going. Pressing escape goes to the HL menu, where I quit the application.
