Hi:
I'm very new to Linux (just installed Ubintu 9.1 on a new hard drive 2 days ago), and having a heck of a hard time installing windows xp programs on Linux.
At the very least, I need to install printer drivers for my Panasonic KX-MB781 (multi-function, laser). Panasonic doesn't have any Linux drivers. Ubintu's own printer manager application, while it can detect my networked printer, it doesn't have drivers for it! It has a dozen or so other Panasonic KX-P#### printers, but not mine.
So, I wanted to just install the windows version of the drivers, from the CD that came with my printer. I have Wine installed, so I just tried to run the setup.exe program. It started to install, then crashed and gave an error msg about some "dll" files.
Any idea how I can install the windows version of the printers' drivers with WINE? Appreciate any help.

You can't. Windows hardware drivers don't work in Wine.Hamid-Lnx wrote: Any idea how I can install the windows version of the printers' drivers with WINE? Appreciate any help.

Any Solutions?
Hi dimesio:
Thanks for the quick response.
So now what are my options? Obviously I don't want to go and buy a new printer that "is" supported by Linux. As I mentioned in my original post, a few places that I've searched, they have a dozen other Panasonic KX-P#### printer drivers, but not mine.
Where can I possibly get a Linux printer driver that might work for my printer? I realize this is not a "Wine" question, but I thought some of you Linux gurus might know.
Also--I've bought Quickbooks Pro 2010, and the info on WineHQ says only QB Pro 2009 can be installed properly. Hmm...
Do you by any chance know any other applications similar to Wine that allow Windows software to run on Linux?
Thanks again for your help.

Try the other drivers. If that does not work ask at the ubuntu forums. So now what are my options? Obviously I don't want to go and buy a new printer that "is" supported by Linux.
