I'm looking to see if wine will run the windows download apps at www.safeharborgames.net . I have several people with MACs wanting to play at this site but it's windows based only. Thanks in advance!

Safe Harbor Games work with wine?
Re: Safe Harbor Games work with wine?
There doesn't appear to be anything in the AppDB; I did find an old bug report: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19543family_man wrote:I'm looking to see if wine will run the windows download apps at www.safeharborgames.net . Why don't you just try it?

How would I even try to? When i sign up and log in to play a game it just tries to load a "safeharborgames" weblink that the browser doesn't know what to do with. The exe I can download hitting downloads when I run it in Wine it just pops up a error box saying "access denied"
I think you need to give more information on how the software works... and what it needs installed to work? is it .NET? etc... etc...

Here is what I got from a gentleman that works on the safeharborgames.net siteI doubt it... thats some really weird site.

[/quote]Admiral> What the installation software does is adds an entry to the registry that the browser uses so that the website is able to invoke the program from the browser. and then it saves the program files in the normal place ... c:\Program Files\SafeHarborGames ... etc.
The registry is a windows thing, yes, but I would think that any windows emulator would also have to emulate the windows registry. If the install program itself has problems putting those registry keys in there, then the program can do it for you. Have them try to either click on the 'safe harbor games' icon that is put on the desktop during installation, or find the HarborGames.EXE file in the file system (under C:\Program Files) and double-click on that. That should bring up the web page, but also install the required registry keys so that entering a lobby will work. instead of, as he says, "it just tries to load a "safeharborgames" weblink that the browser doesn't know what to do with." that symptom - trying to load a safeharborgames weblink that the browser doesn't know what to do with ... is a sign that the registry keys were not installed properly during installation.

of course the registry keys were never installed... NOTHING is ever installed... if your supposed to run that 1 download they have and that fixed everything, it didn't do anything for me trying to run it but say "access denied" when I try to install.
I don't have a Windows machine to use to see how its supposed to work, and I've never used it... and the website isn't very helpful, so I have no idea if I'm even trying the right thing and its failing, or if I'm just not trying to use it right.
what other downloads are there? are there game downloads somewhere? are the games auto downloaded and installed by going to the right spot on the website after the initial install (that doesn't work) ??
Seems to work in Wine in Linux. I didn't try to actually play any games, but I was able to enter game rooms for Hearts and Spades.
What I did:
1. Install winetricks firefox
2. Go to the safeharborgames website and download the installer (you can do this in any browser)
3. the installer is an msi file, so install it with msiexec /i
4. Using Firefox in Wine, go to the safeharborgames website
5. Create an account if you haven't already, and log in
6. Click on whatever game you want to play
7. When prompted to install flash player, accept.
8. Click on whatever room you want to enter
9. When prompted for what application to launch with, click the Choose button, browse to the directory where harborgames.exe is located, and choose that. The first time you do that, it will download the games.
10. Wait for the game to load. It takes about 20 seconds.
I'm not a card player, so someone else will have to test whether actually playing the games works.
Note that the desktop link for safeharborgames doesn't work, but running Firefox and going to the website does.
As for the "access denied" when trying to install, that sounds like a permissions issue.
