Lotus Notes and Compiz under Ubuntu

Post by gkleyner »

I installed Lotus Notes 7.0.3 and have configured the nlnotes.exe app with "Allow the window manager to control the windows" option. My current Wine version is 0.9.59 and I'm currently running under the Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 release and I have Compiz enabled and 4 virtual workspaces.

When I start Notes on one of the virtual workspaces, login, and leave it running.. The moment I switch to another virtual workspace -- all signs of it running disappear. The only way I can still see that something is running if via the Wine task manager -- and trying to use the "switch to" in there fails 90% of the time.

I had the same issue with running under Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10 release and multiple version of Wine that i've tried since Jan. `08.

If I turn off the option of "Allow the window manager to control the windows" then it's fine but obviously it becomes a pain having it always on top of every window on every virtual workspace.

Any suggestions? Anyone else having this issue?

DO NOT use compiz. This is one of the bugs in it with Wine.

Rather than turning off compiz or not using notes, try running Notes
inside its own X server, using Xnest/twm. Xnest works fine with compiz,
notes works fine with twm.
