Ubuntu users, please upgrade to Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy for Wine 0
To prevent conflicts when upgrading to 8.04, older releases will no
longer be getting Wine updates. Ubuntu Hardy will be released this
Thursday, and contains many fixes that also affect Wine, such as support
for some missing libraries in the 64 bit version.
By default, Ubuntu's update manager will disable third party
repositories on upgrade, which will leave you with the Wine included in
Ubuntu Hardy (a slightly patched 0.9.59). If you wish to keep tracking
the latest release using the Ubuntu Wine repository, then after
upgrading please run:
sudo wget http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt/sou ... hardy.list
-O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.list
The website should have updated instructions soon.
Thanks,
Scott Ritchie

Will there be v.0.9.60 in repos for Ubuntu 7.10 in the future?
Edit: I read it again and you said "older releases will no
longer be getting Wine updates". In that case, you should have informed about it at least a couple of weeks ago, because still lots of people are going to stay on "older releases" for a while. I'm going to make a fresh install of 8.04 on a separate hard drive, but I don't feel envious for people on Gutsy and Feisty (I know they can still compile new versions on their own).

Re: Ubuntu users, please upgrade to Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy for Wi
Out of interest, could you write a little about what conflicts upgraders to 8.04 would have encountered, considering that Wine packages for various earlier Ubuntu versions were available simultaneously?Scott Ritchie wrote:To prevent conflicts when upgrading to 8.04, older releases will no longer be getting Wine updates. It does suck a bit that Wine builds for all earlier Ubuntu versions were discontinued the second 8.04 was released, as of course many people don't want to/aren't ready to upgrade just yet. Even Microsoft wouldn't be that unkind...

Would it be possible to, as a workaround for any upgrade-to-8.04 problems, to resume building Wine for older Ubuntu versions, but put them in a different repository? Then people who are for the time being staying with older versions can get them, and will know to remove Wine before upgrading to 8.04 in future (if necessary). And people who don't explicitly add the new repository won't get any Wine versions past 0.9.59 until they upgrade to Ubuntu 8.04.
[Yes, replying to my own post...]
It wouldn't even be necessary to set up another repository. If you continue to build the packages for older Ubuntu releases, just make them available at http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/archive/index.html, and users can download and install manually.
