Quicken registration page is garbage

Post by david.d.miller »

I'm new to Ubuntu and Wine. I've installed Wine (x.x.29) on Ubuntu 9.04, then installed Quicken Deluxe 2009. It seems to work fine but when I attempt to register Quicken I get a page of garbage. Of course Intuit Support is worthless. Somebody out there must work around this problem.

Try native ie6 'winetricks ie6'.

Thanks for the tip. I've read a little about winetricks but .. is that a Linux command run from a terminal window? If so, it can't be found. And I presume ie6 is a Windows executable. I don't seem to have anything like that in the .wine tree, either. Please, a little more help.

sh winetricks ie6 was successful. Quicken became very happy with ie6 installed and ran the registration script without complaint. Now Quicken works fine. Somebody at Intuit should be told about wine!

Good tips. Thanks!

They are very aware of Wine. They choose not to provide a separate
product for it.

You might want to contact support and let them know what you did to get
it working, though.

I contacted support and told them how wonderful Quicken and wine work together. I also contacted a friend that does Quicken software. Maybe I'll get a job offer.

If you do get the job offer, you will be working with a great bunch of people.

BTW, for those Mac users out there, Quicken and TurboTax comes in a native version. Linux folks deserve the same!

I have the same garbled registration with Quicken 2009 under Wine.

winetricks ie6 installed fine but does not correct the problem.

Wine version 1.1.27 running under Debian.

1. Upgrade to wine-1.1.34

2. Go to appdb.winehq.org and find your application and read what it
says about that.

3. Read the wine faq. Post terminal output.

4. And if you can replace whatever graphics card you have with a
nvidia card and use the latest nvidia binary driver.

Thanks John. Quicken Premier 2009 does have a GOLD rating according to the database. There was a tip to skip registration tat did not work. I did upgrade to Wine 1.1.34 and do have an nVidia card with the latest driver installed. My next step is to copy the registration file from my Windows install.

Quicken success.

I was able to bypass registration based on a tip from the Wine database of apps. Cntrl-Shift-space bypasses registration and will not ask for it again, allowing me to use the program. Thanks for you help John.
