GTA:san andreas problems

hi everybody!

ive got a problem starting GTA:SA. when i doubleclick the shortcut, my screen start flashing and then i see parts of the main menu, but i cant figure out what is says. when i try to click the "new game" button the game shuts down.


could this by a graphical problem? i have a ati radeon 9200 family card.

Possibly. Are you using ATI's drivers and gl? If not, I'd start by
installing that. Failing that, if you have access to an nVidia card, try
using that instead; nVidia's drivers are a tad more up to snuff for gaming on
Linux.

thanks.. would this driver be located in the ubuntu repos? i have only used ubuntu for 1 year.. what should i search for?

I'm starting to wonder if my problems with this game and with Knights of the Old Republic are related to my Intel Graphics Card.

Good possibility, Intel makes crappy drivers. Any chance you can test
on nvidia hardware?

Unfortunately not, I mainly use my laptop at home and don't really have any spare computers lying around at the moment.
