Irfanview in Karmic (beta) - Installs but won't run.

Post by emarkay »

I'm Beta testing Ubuntu 9.10. Irfanview worked fine in 9.04 "Jaunty". but as of last night, neither 4.23 nor 4.25 will run - they install fine, and yes, I did add MFC42.dll to the System 32 directory.
It completes the install but I get a Windows-like dialog error box on running it - I think it's a WINE dialog. The Desktop icons also don't get their bitmaps, either.

Here's the WINE code from the install:

Code: Select all

Wine version? Install debug symbols or compile Wine yourself.

Ubuntu's "Wine 1.2" which is actually 1.13. What are "Debug Symbols" ??
(Sure I can Google, but since you know this already can you give me an assist?)

Why would I need to compile a version - isn't the point to have one version that does all? Strange... I presume it's Karmic related...

Thanks.!

SOLVED!

D'oh! I forgot to read my old notes! It says real clearly: "Once installed, edit i_view32.ini and delete the lines following "[Toolbar]"at the bottom."

Thanks!

WHAT???

You better use google. Should be available from the same place you got Wine from.

No and not planning on being one any time soon. This still doesn't answer the question what Wine version? There are no such versions as "wine 1.2" or "1.13".

According to the link, what happens is that the Ubuntu guys name their package Wine 1.2 (since that's the next stable version). However, what is packaged is 1.1.3 (or so it seems). I actually think this makes sense and avoids noob-confusion, but that's my opinion.

Or they come here to find out we only have 'older' versions of wine on this site, and always use the Ubuntu package. Or maybe they even have to adjust the repository, because the package manager would think 1.2 is the newest, and not the current beta. So I think it makes no sense at all. But this is a bit off-topic...

Oh, never mind the last part of my comment. 1.2 is not the version of the package. There's just a whole new package named wine1.2. But I still think it makes no sense

I know that part. It's dumb, but whatever works for clueless ubunties.
jorl17 wrote:However, what is packaged is 1.1.3 (or so it seems).
I really doubt about that. Also note you are writing "1.1.3" which is not the same as "1.13" and it's a really not the same as "1.1.30" (note zero at the end). As in "30" (three zero) not "3" (three).

Sorry to interrupt you, guys!

But if you can see on wine - ubuntu wine 1.2 in Ubuntus diction is in real v1.1.30.

Have a nice weekend!
