Ctrl Select Dodgy

Post by jamiekitson »

Hi,

does anyone have experience of ctrl + mouse click to select (files in the open file dialogue) being dodgy?

I use wine to run version 2.5 of the official flickr uploader and use ctrl + mouse click to select multiple files. Pretty often the ctrl doesn't work so that all the other files are deselected. Which is pretty annoying.

I upgraded from the standard jaunty version to the latest wine repositry version (1.1.27) but that doesn't seem to have helped.

Thanks, Jamie Kitson

Ok, I've worked out what does it: I have focus on mouse over, and if I press ctrl while focus is on something else, the ctrl does not carry over to the wine application.

eg, I am using eog to view images, I press ctrl while eog has focus and move the cursor over to the open dialogue of the flickr uploader and then click. All previous files are deslected.

Is this something that could get fixed?

No. Wine programs SHOULD NOT have mouse focus unless the mouse is
within the window created by the program. This is how it is supposed to
work.

This won't work with Wine. Set it to default "click to focus" policy.

Thanks for your replies, I think you both might have missed the point though. The focus on mouse over is fine, and I am happy with the way that works, the problem is that the ctrl button press does not carry over from one focused application to the wine application. I have confirmed that this does work on normal Linux applications.

ie, mouse is over application/window A and application A has focus. Press and hold ctrl and move mouse over to application/window B (an open file dialogue) and still holding ctrl try to select multiple items.

You changed it to "click to focus" and verified you had the same exact problem?
