Yea, in 9.04, my chip works out of the box with the open source driver:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonXpress

So, back to this:
I managed to stabilize FEAR on my system by disabling GLSL in the registry and enabling DX8 shaders in the game.
I know how to enable DX8 shaders but how do I disable GLSL?

Well, finally got her workin'. All I had to do was install the fglrx driver. I had to fall back onto 8.10, but it worked. I'm probably going to add in 512MB graphics card sometime soon, so I should be good to go then.

Also, just going to add. I have everything I possibly can, at minimum or off, and the FPS on avg is 20 FPS. It's horrible :(

Ok, shes working now. jI'm just wondering how I can get a better FPS on it. Right now my avg FPS is 24 when I test the settings in the performance menu. It's playable, but it has a lower FPS. Anyway I can get a better FPS?

What card are you using? I'm sorry if you listed it, but I only noticed you saying you had a 'ATI Radeon with 128 MB of VRAM'.

I'm really interested to see how it goes, I'm building a new computer and it will have a integrated ATI Radeon HD 3300 built-in 128MB DDR3 1333 SidePort Memory, which is way faster than what F.E.A.R is asking for but still low on the memory.

The suggest hardware is a Radeon 9800 with 256 MB. In Wine you always want to go a little higher that the suggested hardware. It was that way back in the day anyway, I haven't used wine or cedega for ever now.
