when i turned desktop effects on it, install its on nvidia driver
desktop effects work
(not so well but i got to go to the res 1024x748 and put effects on and then go back to 1280x1024 or it will say cant put desktop effects on or some thing)
i got the nvidia control panel and it says its 96.43.10 driver
so am not sure if i got a nvidia proprietary driver

any way i will just type it then
(from ubuntu hardware drivers thing)
nvidia accelerated graphics driver (version 96) [recommended]
test by the ubuntu developers
license:proprietary
3D-accelerated proprietary graphics driver for NVIDIA cards.
This driver is required to fully utilise the 3D potential of NVIDIA graphics cards, as well provide 2D acceleration of newer cards
If you wish to enable desktop effects, this driver is required.
If this driver is not enabled, you will not be able to enable desktop effects and will not be able to run software that requires 3D acceleration, such as some games.
end
the driver is activated and is currently in use
so it looks like i got the right drivers

Your Graphics card is ancient, I mean really ancient.
It doesn't even support directX 9.
I think Wine is forced to use some opengl features in software (that's why the games that work are so slow) and some features aren't available at all (Z-buffer). So if you upgrade your graphics card to any newer graphics card that might solve your problem.
