WINE install of Dreamweaver MX fails
WINE install of Dreamweaver MX fails
Hello. I'm new to this forum.
Before I posted this, I did due diligence searching for an answer to my problem. I found and tried 2 possibles; but neither would work for me.
First my machine specs:
64 machine dual boot between WinXP and Ubuntu Janty Jackalope 9.04.
When I used Hardy Heron 8.04 last year, I was able to install Version 7.0 of Dreamweaver MX on a fluke.. I still don't know why it worked...
Anyway... I uninstalled it because I had some other issues..Tried to put it back on and it failed.
I have also tried to install version 6.0 of DWMX and I am getting the error:
"An installation support file '%systemDrive%\Program files\Common files\InstallShield\engine\6\Intel 32\corecomp.ini' could not be installed (0x8000ffff)"
I have tried copying the entire InstallShield folder from my WinXP drive; into the "home/me/.wine/drive_c" folder.
I have upgraded Wine to 1.1.24 beta from 1.0.1.8
I have removed wine with 'rm -rf ~/.wine
I have run 'export systemDrive='C:'
I have run 'export systemDrive='drive_c:'
I have tried installing from CD using Wine and not Autorun, because Autorun doesn't work either.
None of this effort works. I get the same error eveytime.
I have tried getting help on Ubuntu forums; but I fear that people there are tired of me and my problem. No solutions yet.
I desperately want to use Dreamweaver MX on my Unbuntu OS and migrate myself away from Windows XP.. ALL windows OS products.
I can't afford to purchase Dreamweaver 8.0; although I've heard it's worth it and installs rather easily on Linux.
I'm not very well off financially, and can't afford to spend money on "possible" software solutions.
I'm a freelance web designer, and I'm not making much money at it.
Does anyone have any step by step debug help they can offer as a way for me to unlayer why this program will not install from CD using Wine?
i'm really running out of ideas; and I can't understand why I was able to install DWMX ver 7.0 a year ago, succesfully... it's a mystery to me.
Please help.

The HowTo in the AppDB entry for Dreamweaver MX appears to have been updated fairly recently. Have you tried following that? http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... n&iId=1054
Yes, I've attemped it. I began by downloading dcom98, and tried installing that with Wine. It told me thatdimesio wrote:The HowTo in the AppDB entry for Dreamweaver MX appears to have been updated fairly recently. Have you tried following that? http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... n&iId=1054
"DCOM98 can only be installed on Windows 98. For Windows NT, please install latest service packs"
Now what? The HowTo doesn't say anything about the DCOM98 error.
I feel like I'm sinking in the bowels of Windows Hell...

Tried to install Dreamweaver and it still failed for the same error.
I'm considering starting over; but don't know if it will make any difference.

Ok. I can't post the output from the Dreamweaver install, from Terminal because I did'nt use Terminal to run the install.dimesio wrote:The terminal output you posted was from winetricks, which installed dcom98 just fine. You need to post the terminal output from trying to install Dreamweaver, including the command you used to run the installer.
After I ran Winetricks, I loaded the DWMX cd. It tried to "autorun"; which failed and I canceled.
I then right-clicked on the desktop temp DWMX icon, and selected 'open'.
I got a file browser to open and in the list of the files on the cd was "Installation Dreamweaver.exe".
I right clicked andthis brought me to "open with wine" and I selected that.
Next the install screen for DWMX appeared with two options:
Dreamweaver install and Cold Fusion install. I selected Dreamweaver install.
the rest is the same results I got before:
It opens the "InstallShield" and then trys to install and gets this error:
"An installation support file '%systemDrive%\Program files\Common files\InstallShield\engine\6\Intel 32\corecomp.ini' could not be installed (0x8000ffff)"
I guess I need to try this from terminal so I get an output to post here?
If you know the commands to run this in terminal, I would appreciate it.
I don't use terminal to install very much. My bad.

Ok. I went to the Wine FAQ 3.2 and read the instructions for install from CD. Followed instructions "First verify that CD-ROM is mapped to a disk drive in winecfg "Drives" tab (ex D: -> /media/cdrom)"
I got this error in Terminal, when I clicked the drives tab in Winecfg:
rick@rick-desktop:~$ winecfg
err:winecfg:open_mountmgr failed to open mount manager err 2
err:winecfg:open_mountmgr failed to open mount manager err 2

fixme:msg:pack_message msg 14 (WM_ERASEBKGND) not supported yet
err:winecfg:open_mountmgr failed to open mount manager err 2
Winecfg would not let me map the drive. Is this a bug? I'm running Wine 1.1.24 Beta...
I will say that I still tried the command while in the media/cdrom directory and got this error:
rick@rick-desktop:/media/cdrom$ wine start Install\ Dreamweaver\ MX.exe
fixme:exec:SHELL_execute flags ignored: 0x00000100
rick@rick-desktop:/media/cdrom$
Don't mean to be a simpleton, but what is next? Am I doing something wrong or missing something?
Thanks again for your help.

Works for me
I just tried installing Dreamweaver MX from CD-ROM
with the latest wine from git (wine-1.1.24-292-ga2dd6fb)
and it worked fine. Here's what I did:
rm -rf ~/.wine
(to start with a fresh .wine directory; this deletes anything you had
installed before in wine, so don't do this if you aren't sure)
cd /media/cdrom/Dreamweaver\ MX
wine 'Dreamweaver MX Installer.exe'
That's it! No DCOM98, no futzing around.
It installed fine (though it warned about needing mdac).
To start the app, I had to undo the Z mapping, else it takes forever to start:
rm ~/.wine/dosdrives/z:
I also installed Fireworks and was able to launch that.
Have you tried the simple approach above?

So you didn't have to run winecfg after you put on a fresh version?
And you didn't have to add the dll's for /.wine/drive_c/windows/system32 in wine as "native'?
And you didn't need to copy the InstallShield folder from native windows
and past it to /.wine/drive_c/program files/common files?
And you didn't have to run 'exportDrive='C:'?
And you didn't have to run in Terminal?
Wow..sounds too easy; but I'll try it.
Ok I'm lost on one thing... what is 'git'? A FTP website?
I'll try this if there's any chance it will work.
BTW.. my error message has changed from what I originally posted.
I can't recall all of it; but it had something to with not being able to create
dir/folder because of permissions. Also an error about the kernel.
I'll have to try it again and get those errors exactly, because they still don't come up in terminal... they come up in a dialog box from wine.
Ok. I'm off to try what you suggest. Please let me know what git means and whether I have to go through synaptic pkg insaller to remove wine completely.

I took a look at git-wine and downloaded the 1.6.3.tar group of 3 files and then kept reading the instructions, and it became clear to me that I know nothing about what I'm actually doing.. for instance the cloning part.
Sorry, but this is way over my head...unless you'd really want to give me a step-by-step tute on attaining the git-wine process, etc.
I don't expect you to do that. I am capable of reading instructions and all, and I've got some baic understanding of linux/unix/aix....BUT, this is very involved IMO.
I may just give up trying to do this. I mean, it's all for the sake of using an windows app that I can't do without as a tool for web design. I'm an old guy. Set in my ways. Willing to learn; but cautious.

1. Delete your current ~/.wine with
Code: Select all
rm -rf ~/.wine
3. As a normal user, run winecfg from the command line. A new ~/.wine will automatically be created.
4. In winecfg, go to the drives tab and make sure the CD drive has been detected and mapped. If it has, close winecfg and run the Dreamweaver installer from the command line.
If any of this fails at any point, post console output.

So, once I logged back in, I decided to really remove ALL of the Wine pkgs through Synaptic pkg mgr. Once that was done i wen back and reloaded them...
ver 1.1.24 is the latest ver listed in synaptic pkg mgr.

Did 3. Winecfg opened with no errors and I selected the drive tab and here is the output results from winecfg, in terminal, that I got previously:

BTW.. the "mount manager error" is a relatively new wrinkle that has occurred over the past few days of my install attempts and trying things recommended as well as my own experiments...much to my dismay.
I'm not sure what has caused this, but in the beginning of my unsuccessful attempts to install DWMX from cd; this error did not occur.
I'm not sure what I may have done to mess this up? Can it be corrected? What else must be done?
Thanks for your help..

There is something wrong with your system. Wine is a user-level process, and even if it crashes, that won't log you out. What you describe is X crashing, and that's a graphics driver issue.shobuz99 wrote: ok. Did 1. no problem. WINE install of Dreamweaver MX fails
This could be a problem with either hardware or your X windowsok. Did 1. no problem. I tried running winecfg and got a huge error output in terminal; but I couldn't capture it because it logged me out and forced me to log back in to Ubuntu.

Mount mgr is only one of them.
It looks like your observation about X crashing is accurate..

Despite the fact that I still think I have an x windows or x server problem, I was finally able to run from terminal and get a output
to post:
rick@rick-desktop:/cdrom/Dreamweaver MX$ wine Dreamweaver\ MX\ Installer.exe
rick@rick-desktop:/cdrom/Dreamweaver MX$ fixme:storage:StgCreateDocfile Storage share mode not implemented.
err:ole:marshal_object object doesn't expose interface {be6115a1-7de5-48dc-ad2a-25060e00fce2}, failing with error 0x80004002
err:ole:ClientIdentity_QueryMultipleInterfaces IRemUnknown_RemQueryInterface failed with error 0x80004002
rick@rick-desktop:/cdrom/Dreamweaver MX$
This is the first time I was able to get this message.
What do you think?
The original error message appeared in a dialog box, on the screen as well:
"An installation support file '%systemDrive%\Program files\Common files\InstallShield\engine\6\Intel 32\corecomp.ini' could not be installed (0x8000ffff)"
Also, I have been searching the Ubuntu forum for help with the x wndows crashing issue; but haven't found anything.. do you know a good place to look?

Re: WINE install of Dreamweaver MX fails
I'm sure everyone is tired of my problems, and would rather spend
July 4th weekend doing something else. I don't blame you. So would I.
It's also my younger son's birthday and he'll be 34 years old.
So, I'll just offer an update to all and if anyone wants to; they can jump in and tell me I'm nuts, screwed, and annoying. I won't be offended.
I have narrowed things down, somewhat. I run the rm -rvf ~/.wine
from terminal, and then run winecfg. There is an error message that scrolls down the screen and then aborts..
before it does, I try to read all of the content. I can't finish reading because the machine logs me off Ubuntu and goes to my logon screen for username and password.
When I come back, I am able to run winecfg, with no problem; BUT
the drives are not listed in the drive tab and the error complains of mount manager failure, in Terminal output.
I have done some research into this and found very little that is helpful or akin to my issue.
I'm sure of one thing, Wine has difficulties doing any cfg after it is removed.
Even if I go to Synaptic PKg mgr and completely remove it and any other wine related packages including wine-doors, and wine-gecko: and then go through the re-install of all of them.
Still the same problems.
I have done something or something has changed, during the course. I recall being able to see the drives listed on the drives tab...
BTW.. Wine-gecko shows up in several of the error messages that scroll before I am logged off. I have no time to catch all that is listed.
Which brings me to a question: Is there a switch I can add to the 'winecfg' command that outputs the error message to a text file or log, and saves it so I can view it when i re-logon?..
i.e. winecfg -logfile log.txt or something?
If so, I will be able to post the error message in it's entirety to this forum for analysis.
Anyone want to help this old man stubbornly continue with this issue?
Happy 4th of July to all.

Ok. Austin i have somewhere to start.
First: what do you recommend as a fix for the graphics drivers?
Can I reinstall the drivers and recover? if so, your suggested steps 1-2-3..??
Second: I did have drives tab of winecfg working at some point. It clearly listed them and no mount error..
I'm afraid i've no experience running a compile..
I don't know the first step...
What could have messed up Ubuntu in the first place?
I don't remember, but I could have run sudo something that sholdn't have been...is that it?
Third: I like your solution for capturing the errors from wincfg.
If nothing else, at least I can put up those errors here, for analysis and a narrowing down of the problem.
All in all, I really do thank you for your help. Especially on this holiday..
Appreciate it very much
