Popcap games

Post by AppliArt »

Hello everyone!

I have an question, how do you disable the hardware acceleration for Popcap games in Wine.

I already tried this

i opened winecfg
i added the game exe
i clicked on the Graphics tab
Looked at Direct3D
Vertex Shader set to none
And Pixel shader turned off

What i'm doing wrong?

(Sorry for bad english)

Thanks

Why would you need to disable hardware acceleration ?

cause when you use hardware acceleration, the screen turns black (error in directx i think) Look at the appdb., almost all popcap games require software rendering in place of hardware

Popcap tends to make only casual games, many of which are similar to games
distributed with the popular desktop environments. Have you also checked to
see if you can find Linux equivalents of the Windows game you're trying to
get working?

Is this about the downloadable versions of PopCap games? If so
solutions might may be game by game dependent. might be best to
specify exactly which games you are speaking of.

I *think* that most of the online versions are Flash based. On my
windows machine I just see Firefox burning CPU cycles and no
additional processes getting started. (As a user anyway) I've found
that most of the PopCap online games don't work under Linux anyway. I
suspect that the Linux Flash implementation either isn't up to date or
compatible enough.

I didn't mean specifically Popcap's products. Have you checked your Linux
distribution for similar games?

Correct this is a problem in Wine and it's not yet fixed. That 3d acceleration doesn't really do anything. I could not tell a difference on Windows switching between the two. If it works in software mode - great play it that way.

Inside the game itself of course. Wine doesn't have such options.

I can play Zuma Deluxe.exe just fine. Except it is in a little 800x600 window and I can't figure out how to make it scale to full screen. It used to in wine 2 years ago. :-(

doh

Doh, all I had to do was click "fullscreen" in Zuma. Oh, and it works the same with or with out acceleration checked off in Zuma. Now she won't keep booting into windows, hehe.
