how do i know what my hostname is in wine?

hi, it seems wine aint using my linux hostname so how do i know what hostname is using?

There used to be a config file with the network settings but I dont know how that works now..

How are you sure it's not?

No, it's been deprecated in favor of the registry.

Im using wine to run a server program to control time usage in an internet cafe and the problem is that the user computers (running win$) arent being able to connect to the server, it says the hostname is wrong. It works If I try to connect to the server using its ip but this doesnt work in the long run since I have dinamic ip.

The server´s hostname/computer name is debian, I also tried with debian.amnet.co.cr with same result.

Why don't you set an static IP for your Server?
Wouldn't it be easier?

I'm new in using Linux but I always used an static IP at Windows.

But I think Linux is much better the only madness is that there are to many applications witch won't run at Linux

For example I'm searching for an ICQ client witch is able to start a voice chat, and the ICQ client won't run at Wine

Ok, so the problem is not with program you running under Wine but with program(s) that are running on other systems?

I didnt know I could set a static ip, I will look into that.

How could I know? If I could issue a command in wine that would tell me the hostname then I would know.

I asked you the question.

It seems you do not understand basic concepts of DNS and name resolution. Your problem is completely outside of Wine. Consult with your distro's forum on how to setup nema resolution on LAN. This is not something Wine can not help you with

I did answered. "How could I know" implies that I dont know. Ill reasearch name resolution and stufff too see what Im missing, but getting a static ip is my first option.

Get a basic book on setting up IP configurations under Linux or Google
it. Wine should pick up the same hostname and IP address. Wine does
not have the Windows Networking stuff build in completely, yet.
