I am beginning to wonder of which use is the stable version of Wine ?
As soon as an user says 1.0.1, you and others are asking for an upgrade
(verified in many other threads)

The wine stable was released so that application developers could test
and compile against a non-moving target. It is not meant for
non-official wine supporting apps to use.

This is not what I read through the "2.1. Which version of Wine should I use?" part of the FAQ,
and a common user will avoid installing the development version.

Then keep reading. The third paragraph of that entry says that if the
released version does not work, then try the development release.

Then there's no point using the "stable" version, as you stated, its mainly for application developers. FAQ should be updated.

Yes, there is. 1.0.1 works with thousands of apps. You're suffering
from selection bias. We only see the users that are having problems,
and for them, upgrading is the first step towards a solution.

There are a few who bother to make a forum account to send a thank
you. We don't tell them to upgrade to development version.
