GTA San Andreas Page Fault

Post by j_antunes »

I've been trying to get San Andreas to work and I've been running into a problem. This one:
fixme:quartz:MPEGSplitter_query_accept MPEG-1 system streams not yet supported.
err:quartz:Parser_Destroy pinref should be null, is 1, destroying anyway
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address 0x4dd5a3 (thread 0009), starting debugger...
The problem is I don't know jack about what this means. If anyone could shed a light on it for me, I'd be very thankful. Here are my specs, the full debug and anything else I thought might be relevant:

Debian Lenny 64-bit / Geforce FX5200 / NVIDIA 173.14.18 DD / Wine 1.0.1 (1.1.17 did the same)

The game crashes precisely after the intro movie (that doesn't really work). It shows the loading escreen that should lead to the menu but from there it just exits.

GTA San Andreas Page Fault

Post by Warren Dumortier »

Do you have a clean wine for the game, as it works fine here?

2009/3/27 j_antunes <[email protected]>
I've been trying to get San Andreas to work and I've been running into a
problem. This one:

fixme:quartz:MPEGSplitter_query_accept MPEG-1 system streams not yet
supported.
err:quartz:Parser_Destroy pinref should be null, is 1, destroying anyway
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address
0x4dd5a3 (thread 0009), starting debugger...

The problem is I don't know jack about what this means. If anyone could
shed a light on it for me, I'd be very thankful. Here are my specs, the full
debug and anything else I thought might be relevant:

Debian Lenny 64-bit / Geforce FX5200 / NVIDIA 173.14.18 DD / Wine 1.0.1
(1.1.17 did the same)

The game crashes precisely after the intro movie (that doesn't really
work). It shows the loading escreen that should lead to the menu but from
there it just exits.

I have also tried reverting back to NVIDIA's 173.14.12 and 173.14.09. No luck. With .14.09 I don't even get as far as the logo, and .14.12 yelds the same results described above.

Well you could try to upgrade the nvidia driver to the latest version, works
fine here.

Warren, the NVIDIA driver 173.13.18 is the latest version for the FX series.

Daemon, sure. I could upgrade. And I could also replace my entire system everytime I run into a problem, but I hardly think this to be a good solution. The card works just fine and is enough to run the game in Windows perfectly, so replacing it would be a last resort to a severe problem. Furthermore, performance of the card is not an issue here - the game is not slow or faulty, it is just not running.

By the way I've tried fiddling around with Wine's builtins and native DLLs, but got no improvements. I found someone else having the same crash, though:

Is there a backtrace in the output? It might be needed to find the problem i
think.

I cannot really help you, but you could try to use the native qurtz dll
(quartz.dll) as the errors are from quartz. I don't think it will not let
the program crash, but give it a try, who knows...
