Wine displayes weird colored lines when trying to play game

I am new here and i have a question.

Any time i play a game there is colored lines across the screen, and i can not see anything. It happens every time i use wine and try to play a game, or use a graphics program like Google Earth.


The version i am using is 1.1.17
I was using wine 1.0.1 and still had the problem

This points to improperly installed/buggy video drivers.
Do you have ATI video card? What drivers you have (version)? Have you tried upgrading them?

i am a complete noob at ubuntu. How do i go about this.
