Battlefield 1942 Graphics

Post by that idiot over there »

Hi, I'm trying to get the Battlefield 1942 demo to work. The game runs, and I can start a game. but all the graphics are messed up. The ground is black, weapons and vehicles are blue and missing parts. I installed DirectX 9 but it changed nothing. Any ideas?
Thanks!

There is no need to install directx 9, this game does not use dx9.

The problem is likely to do with your video card and drivers, the game works perfectly with nvidia hardware.

Please don't post in HTML, use plain text. Are you sure you had a problem with Battlefield 1942? Not Battlefield 2 or newer?

Anything I can do? I doubt I can replace the graphics card on my tiny computer, so is there some driver I can use? I'm able to play most native linux games well, but wine must not like my card

Hmm... Battlefield doesn't have a windowed mode in the prefs. I tried a virtual desktop, but it didn't help. Is that what you meant or did I miss something?

It works fine here with latest wine out of the box, i sue nvidia tough,
might be a intel related problem? Do you experience the same issue with
other games?

The game "Cube" (www.cubeengine.com/cube.php4) runs perfectly. Of course, it uses OpenGL and not DirectX... Does anyone know of a small download that can test DirectX? Thanks.

Wine translates dx to OpenGL, it also includes tests if you download the source distribution.

I tried running the game on a friend's Compaq Presario running Ubuntu. It had exactly the same result. The laptop has an ATI Radeon 2000 video card, using the open source drivers. Is there no hope?

If you don't use a proper OpenGL implementation then you will get bad results. nvidia is the only way to go unless you plan on trying to diagnose, report and possibly fix these bugs.
