Fallout problems.

Post by TheCandyMan »

Currently using Wine 1.01 on the latest Ubuntu and I'm having some problems. I have the fallout ISO mounted onto a virtual drive, and whenever I try to run INSTALL.EXE it just brings a brief dos like box that vanishes in a second with the text that I believe says something like "not enough memory exe" or something. Well, I no doubt have enough memory on my computer to play a game as old as fallout (1 gb ram for example) so I'm not sure why that would come up. DOS4GW.exe just gives me a blank black dos like box, and the rest don't do anything at all.

So, how do I fix this problem?

Did you follow the instructions in the AppDB? http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... ion&iId=43

Well, I switched it to Win98, yet the problems I described above still happened. Can anyone help me on this?

I suppose I wasn't descriptive enough in my last post.

Yes, I've tried following the steps, but once I get past step 1 (switching to Win98), I run into the same problems I described above. What do I do now?

I suppose you are running it by double clicking the install.exe. If you run it from a terminal, you get to see error messages which hopefully can better pinpoint the problem.

Also, ideally you should use the latest version of wine, or at least the one recommended in the appdb entry.

I also see that you have an install.exe whereas the appdb entry mentions a setup.exe. Maybe it's not exactly the same fallout version?

Well, I have the latest stable version, 1.01 that is on the Ubuntu repository. Should I update then to 1.1.13?

Well, when I run setup.exe through wine, I don't even get a terminal window. It's fallout version 1.1
