Chattha Sangayana - bit of a challenge

Post by Ashin Sopaka »

OK, there might be one other person who sure could use help with this, but I personally would greatly appreciate any assistance someone can give.

Issue #1: Have installed this program (http://www.tipitaka.org/cst4) and Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 SP1, and when launching the program, it appears to "start", but then nothing happens, even when waiting the 15-20 minutes recommended on the site for the program to index. Is there anyone with technical knowledge who would be willing to help me work this out?

Issue #2: there is an earlier version of this software that was released on CD. It installs and runs OK, with the exception that windows cannot be scrolled, that is, the slider snaps back to the top and the page doesn't move at all.

I cannot thank you enough for your assistance in advance :)

Wine version/terminal output?

Issue #2 sounds like a richedit bug off hand, try native.

HI Austin, thanks for your reply. Wine version is 1.1.14, and please forgive the ignorance, but what is "terminal output"?

Also, again please forgive the ignorance, what is "try native"?

OK< have pretty much given up on Issue #1 - too much work to get Mono, and it turns out the program itself has editorial issues.

So, Issue #2 - no scrolling. To be honest, I am not sure what "try native" means, so assume it means to run it under the OS it is meant for - Windows in this case. Result: no problems.

The program itself works really well, only the windows cannot be scrolled (in Wine)

Any suggestions on how to fix a richedit bug?

Thanks again

P.S. Went through the entire Wine FAQ and couldn't find, or missed completely, this issue.

Hi Austin,

As a Buddhist monk there were many reasons for choosing to go with Linux, mostly ethical. Consequently, there isn't much time to learn, coupled with electricity and internet connectivity limitations, so troubleshooting has been an OJT kinda thing. Unfortunately, what may seem to be a simple request, like "Terminal Output", is kind of another language for me, and I am not even sure where to begin to find out how to provide that info.

So, may I ask your patience in telling me precisely the steps I need to take in order to provide the terminal output info?

Thanks again

P.S. Sorry for the delay! I didn't get the email notification that you had replied!

I would personally love to hear more. There are few choices that I
respect more than your particular choice of lifestyle, dedication, and
discipline. It is not the right choice for me, but I take a personal
interest nonetheless. You can contact me offlist at this email
address.

Isn't much time to learn? That is both true and untrue at the same
time, depending on what your goal is. If you have the immediate goal
of running a particular application in wine, then I understand. But I
would expect a longterm goal from you.

Just copy and post the information that shows in the terminal when you
run the app.

Thanks for the reply. Will contact you as requested offlist. [This mindfulness thing must not be working! I don't see your email address!]

For this program, ran in the terminal window, but I presume that since it ran "OK", there were no messages in the terminal window* . The problem is that when the program windows open, they don't scroll - the slider bar snaps back to the top and the page doesn't move at all.

(*ashin@ashinsopaka-laptop:~/.wine/drive_c/CSCD$ wine CSCD.exe
ashin@ashinsopaka-laptop:~/.wine/drive_c/CSCD$ )

As per the above instructions, I "winetricked" the richedit files, but that didn't work either.

What program is this? (The thread was broken).

Can it be downloaded anywhere?

Hi Austin,

Alas, no, the program cannot be downloaded, but the CD can be ordered (free) from pariyatti.org. I would be happy to send one, but can only do so in a couple of weeks when I am in BKK (if you could send your mailing address to me privately, I would be more than happy to do so! ashin DOT sopaka at g(ee)mail dot c0m) More info about this can be found at http://www.tipitaka.org/

I also tried installing the desktop version (from this site), and had problems launching it (first of two questions in the original post), but turns out there are many editorial errors, so dropped that question.

Quickly: for various reasons, mostly ethical but also practical, I am trying to convince my teacher to convert all computers to Linux, but this particular program (CSCD) has to be able to work in order for the argument to be persuasive. Of course, should the monks here switch to Linux, there would be a ripple effect.

Is this the CD you're talking about?

Yes! Didn't realise it could be downloaded! Thought I had thoroughly searched that site!

After installing and running, a window in Devanagari script will open. Close it and at the top of the page you will see a drop down menu. Choose "Roman", then click on the first icon (open folder) on the menu bar. Double click on "Silakkhandavaggapali". Then try scrolling. And please let me know if you can get it to do so!
