1.1.15 "Failed to connect to the mount manager..."

Post by edgar_rice »

The Drives tab in system->wine->Wine Configuration reports:

"Failed to connect to the mount manager, the drive configuration cannot be edited."

This is Fedora 10, a fresh install (no ~/.wine) using yum:

# yum install wine

On another machine, also with Fedora 10, I installed 1.1.14 which configured correctly, then upgraded to 1.1.15 with no problems.

Perhaps this is something new in 1.1.15?

Is there a repository where I can specify the version I want to install? I would like to try 1.1.14 to see if it works on this machine.

This seems to be a reported bug (sort of) here:

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17662

I copy the indicated missing lines into system.reg and it seems to work. At least there is an open bug for it...

Final update: replacing the lines indicated in the previously-linked post got me past the error message in the panel, but the install did not work. I copied the system.reg from my (originally 1.1.14, upgraded to 1.1.15) installation and it worked, though it seemed to have a bunch of junk in it (applications installed on the other machine showed up as available for uninstall).

It appears that the problem is simply that Wine 1.1.15 will not create a valid system.reg from scratch. 1.1.14 did.

At least there is an open bug and someone will address this, eventually.
