SQL Server Native Client Redistributable EULA

While, successfully, using the SQL Server 2008 Native Client on Wine I
noticed a troubling entry in the EULA. It reads like this :

2.iii. Distribution Restrictions. You may not... "distribute
Distributable Code to run on a platform other than the Windows
platform"

Does this restriction effectively eliminate any chance of legally
running this client library on Wine?

That sounds like a distribution restriction more than anything else.

ie. As long as you don't start distributing something to run the client on a non-Windows platform, you're fine.

I guess it all boils down to how MS defines "distribute". I was
toying with the idea of putting a UnixODBC compatible driver together
that wrapped what MS provides in this distributable. I guess I'll
have to research it some more.

Hello Chad,

Can I know how do you setup sql server native client in wine, please ?
i am trying to use sql server native client 10.0 and it always failed, when i try to make connection from "udl" and i choose sql server native client 10.0, it says "Provider is no longer available, ensure that the provider is intalled properly"

for sql server native client (snac 9) i managed to install and use properly, however, the database that i want to connect is SQL SERVER 2008 R2. therefore I need SNAC10.
