I downloaded and installed Darwin 1.1.5 to run Sturmovik IL2 1946. It worked fine yesterday but today, it will not load the application. Everything seems to start normally, but I get the following message in the Wine Log:
err:module:attach_process_dlls "gdi32.dll" failed to initialize, aborting
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"Z:\\Applications\\Ubisoft\\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\\il2fb.exe" failed, status c0000005
I have reloaded the application from the back-up disk, reloaded Darwine, restarted the computer, but nothing seems to work.

Is there something else I should try?
Yes, sadly Apple did something that is breaking Darwine. You will have
to add an Environment parameter to make it work. See my other postings
on the gdi32.dll error. I am working on building a copy of Darwine that
will automatically detect where certain libraries are installed and
adjust the parameter while running.

@James
Here i have Leopard (newest Patch Level) with newest Xcode. I didnt have any Problems you mentioned with gdi.
I used the Builds from Mike Kronenberg.
After i found that i am unable to use FixFoto (you remember?) i tried to make Darwine from source and succeeded with 1.1.13 and with 1.1.14 too. At the time i didnt get such errors with gdi. Maybe because i try to use the "wrong" programs?
My FixFoto isnt running with the newest wine too
I didnt have any cluse why its running on Linux with wine and not an a mac. Is there any information/documentation where the differencies are between Linux and Mac with wine? Maybe this help fo my problem and for your gdi-problem too?

the latest version i can find is 0.9.27
so its possible to compile wine from source on Intel-Macs?
The "official" darwine project is may be stopped (i dont know).
Yes is it possible. Yesterday i created a dawrine with wine 1.1.14
If you go to: http://www.kronenberg.org/darwine/ Mikes site you can see that he tries to build never wines. There is another guy that is building newer wines. Have a look here in winehq (intsalling wine on mac osx or something like this - there are both links).
Today, I d/l and installed Darwine x86-1.0.1. I tried to run the IL2 program again and got completely different messages in the Wine log, as shown below. The IL2 game never loaded, but at least this was something different.

Since these are Java errors, and Wine does not use Java code, it appears that the program ran into an unsupported function call that is not implemented in Wine. The immediate feeling is to install DirectX 8, which I recommended against. What I do recommend is filing a bug report at Wine's Bugzilla with all of these details. It may be that an unimplemented OpenGL function may be causing this as well but until someone with Linux runs this program, we cannot rule out a Wine bug.

How is this project going? Nothing else I have done seems to make any difference at all. So I am placing my hopes on someone coming up with a solution that will not involve dual-boot or an emulator program. I had hoped that crossover would work, but sadly, no joy there, either.
Other than this one thing, the iMac is working perfectly and the upgrade to 4 GB of RAM was the easiest memory upgrade I have ever done.
I'm also watching this topic very closely! What is the environment parameter you mentioned? I just want to play around myself to see if I can get something running.
I have a working Darwine 1.1.14 and 1.1.15 release. I have not heard
back from Mike Kronenberg as to whether or not to post these to the
darwine.good-day.net site. I will inquire a second time.
I would love to find a working copy of those Darwines listed below. Question, though as a newbie, I don't know how to "build" any of these installations, which is why I was attracted to the .dmg versions.
All I want to do is run two Windows programs on my Mac w/o using the blamed BootCamp.
Thanks in advance for whomever can help.
