Age of Empires II Won't Run

Post by jj »

I can't seem to get Age of Empires II to run after successful installation. I have created a new WINEPREFIX directory and installed it there and tried first without directx and with it. It is gold on the appdb so I'm a bit surprised. OS is Ubuntu 8.10 and I have tried with wine 1.1.15, 1.1.14 and 1.01. Each time it dumps the memory. Thanks for any help.

Do you have your CD in the drive? Is it mapped in winecfg to a drive? Is it's type set to cdrom?

Yes, yes and yes. They are set to the default settings.

Edit: Just tried with a nocd executable, and it does start, or try to, but says my hardware does not support DirectDraw. Therefore I guess you were right about it not finding the CD, though I'm not sure why it didn't.

ya i've never played AOE2 without the no cd fix on linux. AOE2 Conquerors works flawlessly for me though sometimes it seems like im playing on a server thats running a little slow. Sorry but idk what is causing your DirectDraw error, I just wanted to give you hope.
