Sid Meier's Pirate's HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah this game has a GOLD rating, yet the game wont even start, it seemed to install fine, but when i try to open the game it never even starts ?

i click the .exe and tell it to open with wine and i get some crazy window here is a screen shot... (a picture is worth a thousand words... )

im using:

wine-1.1.15
installing from a download off EBGames (not using C.D.)
ubuntu 8.10

Try native shdocvw (winetricks ie6).

shdocvw is a windows dll. Winetricks ie6 will install native ie6 which
includes native shdocvw. It looks like that app uses ie rendering,
which is currently being implemented in wine.

picked the package ie6
(the one you said i believe)


i got an error and abort message and this in terminal:

and installed ie6

and it did... BUT i got some error and dont wanna touch a button untill someone that knows what their doing tells me to

Hmm, strange. Seems it hung somewhere. Probably a conflict with some
other program in wine.

Terminate process shouldn't hurt anything, maybe an IE file, though doubtful.

Okay... i Clicked Terminate Process...

got on terminal

and executed the .exe ($ cd /home/whatever/whatever/pirates
($ wine Pirates.exe)

and i got happy for a second because i seen this screen...

but then another wrench in the gears, shortly after that screen i got this...
and it never progressed and terminal came to a halt

okay missed a step in the last post

Okay i executed the .exe
$ cd /home/me/whatever/whatever/whatever/SidMeiersPirates/
$ wine Pirates.exe

and i got happy and seen this screen:

Is this program protected by some sort of DRM protection? If so, it
will not work under Wine for now.
