Just upgraded from 1.1.14 (that worked fairly well on some apps) to 1.1.15 on Ubuntu and it just plain won't work. Not even winecfg works. I get this for winecfg:

Move or delete the .wine folder in your home directory.

Okay, so I deleted .wine and then installed 1.1.15 and it worked like a bought one. Great. Installed 2 favourite apps. Still good. Then I installed Google Earth and that wouldn't run and neither would the other 2 apps. Deleted and reinstalled the other 2 and still won't run.
Linux in general and Wine in particular is such a major, major, MAJOR load of crap so very often. This is now my tenth year of stuffing around with it.

With Linux: if your hardware is supported, then it has Mac OS X-like
levels of "just works." (e.g. laptops with all-Intel chipsets.) If
your hardware isn't supported, it's a world of pain. Manufacturers are
slowly coming to realise they have to make sure their stuff works ...
it'll get better by and by.
