I found out that comctl32.dll is responsible for tooltips. Simply copying the file from real windowsXp wasnt any help.
Then I saw it in winetricks panel and installed - and voila! It works just fine - no tooltips appear where theyre not suppose to appear.
Be sure to file a bug for this (check for dupes first).
On Ubuntu 8.10 wine 1.14 i try to install metatrader . Failed because was missing mfc42.dll .grrr I try to copy and paste mfc42.dl from XP partition in directory C:\windows\system32 to Linux directory system32 in .\wine thinking to do a crazy operation and .. it's works very well now ! .... That dll isn't included in windows either. It's a redistributable dll
that the app is supposed to include, but many don't, as they think
that another app will have installed it already.
Thanks for data . I wrongly supposed was a standard windows dll. Ok . Anyway I run a Metatrader Standard setup.exe in wine . And this dll was missing after setup . Doing the same in xp dll is loaded ... maybe a wine bug that do not load dll ( assuming metatrader setup has included it ) ?

Doubtful. You probably already had an app installed that had mfc42
installed in system32.
Try installing a clean copy of windows, then metatrader.
I just installed 9.10 and Metatrader wouldn't even fire up (at all) after the upgrade, but the instructions above, installing wine gecko, worked perfectly and resolved several of the graphical issues I was having under 9.04
I have Metatrader installed and it seems to be running fine, except that I can't input anything to change the settings on the indicators or ea's. I hope I don't have to back to xp for this.
I got metatrader to work but when I shut it down and try to log back in I can not do so and have to completely reinstall metatrader with a new demo account. Luckily I'm using a demo at this point but would like to use in live trading.
My problem is it doesn't save my last login in information and even if I write it down there is no server in the server window. In other words everything is blanked out where you would normally log on. So if I enter my log on information I can't get it to run anyway because server is blanked out. I've tried this on many forex brokers and the result is always the same.
The only way I can get it to run is download metatrader again and open a new demo everytime but this is too inconvenient to do in daily practice but I have got it to work in real time as long as I don't shut it down. Any suggestions - anyone else have this problem? Please I have to get this working.

I feel like a fool for asking now. I think my mistake can be attributed to using a shortcut to run it. I haven't had a problem with it if I open the application through the wine directory. Even though I was giving the option to open with wine with the shot-cut it apparently doesn't work properly. So the simple fix was to find the exe in wine and run with wine.
There are some other issues that I have encountered so your link might help. Currently some of the graphics in the custom indicators I use don't display as they were intended. For instance some dot's in indicator windows show up as a different graphic. Thanks again I will check out that link next.
