Really want to dump microsoft....but have to run Photoshop

Post by PHOTOG »

I am a rank newb at this and I appologize, I would have dumped MS long ago but I am not any kind of a coder, so having to write scripts and such is out for me.

I really want to dump everything microsoft.....but I have to be able to run Adobe Photoshop 7 and CS4......why do I keep PS7...because I can't get a lot of the plug-ins I use for any thing above 7 and a lot of the ones I can I have to re-purchase as there was no real upgrading.

:?:Will W.I.N.E. allow me to run photoshop CS4 on Linux?

:?: Which type of Linux is the best for this?

A great deal of THANX in advance for any answers!!!!

Ubuntuhttp://www.ubuntu.com/ is used by the majority of people submitting test reports to the Wine AppDB.

But really, it works on most if not all Linux distros.

The main thing is to make sure you like using the Linux distro in
question. Everyone will have an opinion and personal tastes, but
basically they're all well up to the task of being an operating
system. And Wine runs the same on all of them.

(with a few hiccups, e.g. Wine can have sound problems on distros
using PulseAudio - do we have a list of this sort of thing anywhere?)

Try it and see. CS4 doesn't install yet, last I checked. CS 2 should
work very well/platinum, PS 7, unsure, CS 3 should semi work.

Not that this has anything to do with Wine, but have you considered
trying PSPI (PhotoShop Plugin Interface) with GIMP?

i am not too worried about my PS7+ ~3k in plug ins.....they can stay on my old PC....it is a licensed Win XP box........
I am looking more to run CS4 + LR2 on the new machine and not wanting to have to pay M$ more licensing fees ........

I just a post on another forum that stated CS4 might run well with Ubuntu and wine v.1.1.10 ..... but I asked for confirmation and it has been 4 wks since the poster said he was about to give it a good testing and last night I bumped the thread with the question if any new news was available.
