How could I install Windows Installer 3?

Hi!

I have a problem: I've downloaded Microsoft Installer 3.1 from Microsoft Download Center, but I unable to install it. The error message: the installer found a newer version of service pack in the system, so there is no need of the update.

I used WineTricks to install MSI 2.0, but the new installers need the latest version. I tried to find solution for the problem via Google, without any result. I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 + Wine 1.1.12.

I tried to install Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 in that case. But Photoshop CS2's installer also quit without any error message.

I don't think either of those apps requires msi 3.x.

Which version of wine are you using? Generally, the closer to the latest version, the better. 1.1.11 is probably the best at the moment.

I'm used version 1.1.12. But my OS died yesterday . I'm going to reinstall the system. I installed a lot of components using WineTricks, maybe that was the problem.

It's nearly impossible that installing anything in wine or winetricks
killed your linux os.
