Does any one know of an accounting app that will run properly under wine, must be for USA, must have inventory and payroll. Must not require accounting degree to operate. Something that will actually work...............

Have you tried GnuCash? www.gnucash.org - It's quite mature and has many features, runs on GNU/Linux natively and also on Windows.

http://www.gnucash.org/docs/v1.8/C/gnuc ... ter14.html

Seems to have some payroll support

It'd be better to ask questions about GnuCash using their irc channel as it's fairly offtopic here, http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/IRC

I tried that for personal finance, has about as much personality as a terminal. I now use KMyMoney for personal finance.

SQL Ledger is another native Linux app you might want to look at. It seems to do everything you need. http://www.sql-ledger.org/

Thanks for all the help and suggestions, but if Linux had the app I would be using it. I have tried alot of them Mybooks has all the features, but it requires an accountant to use it. Most of the full featured Linux apps are beyond SOHO. I am looking for suggestion on windoze SOHO apps that work well with wine.

I have tried the all................

Have you checked the AppDB? Browse the Finance/Accounting/Project/CRM category (unfortunately, there's no way to search just the AppDB by keyword).
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... &iId=11621 looks promising.

I gave that a try,did not seem to have payroll or inventory? installed OK, but could not get the program to load. Just complained about the printer.I have MYOB for windows, I can do almost every thing, except print invoices and checks, it is plagued by bug 6316. An accounting app is useless with out printing.

My dad wants to start a small business. What accounting/bookkeeping software would be appropriate? As my dad's not overly astute in the financial management side of things, I agreed that I would help him out in that respect. I'm a year 11 Accounting student so we've covered most of small business bookkeeping. I'm just wondering which accounting method would be most appropriate (and which software).

The business I only likely (at present) to consist wholly of himself (service business). I would probably be listed as an employee in these circumstances though.
