Errors using WINE with certain programs

Post by Elliander »

So far I have tried using 4 programs with WINE so far and I have not been able to get any of them to work right. An Emulator program kept blinking, a small desktop application called "catwalk" also was blinking. It took me a while to get those programs closed because of the blinking.

I also tried installing the Windows Version of TrueCrypt. It had an error on install. Files were installed, but nothing was written to the registry. (of that, however, I was able to get the Unix version to work.)

And just now I tried installing a program called "Resurrection Matchmaker" from http://mm.wildman-productions.org/ and it installs ok, but when it runs I get:
Run-time error '380':

Invalid Property Value.
I'm not sure what I need to do to get that one to work if it is even possible.

I am using Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit updated. And I installed WINE from Synaptic Package Manager.

What is a "composite display manager" how do I know if I am using it and how would I disable it?

The program that had the run-time error didn't blink so I don't think it's related to the blinking programs not working. Is there an error reporting function, to forward these errors directly? And how can I request that a program be reviewed for compatibility?

I doubt that this could work being that it is a device driver. Use the
linux version.

How would encryption software act as a device driver?

I think the better question is how would it NOT?

Its not the encryption part but the virtual drive.

Destop effects settins somewhere.

Try googling for "ubuntu disable compiz" or "ubuntu disable desktop effects"

Else ask on the Ubuntu forum..

Look if it is listed in the AppDb (somwhere on the Wine site)
