WINE with a 2D only videocard

Post by telek »

Is it possible to install WINE with a 2D only videocard??
I have a chipset that is not supported by Linux and I fear it will never be, I have an SIS 760/761 integrated chipset this chipset is known not to have any 3D support what so ever.

I can't slap in a new video card because it's in a laptop and to my knowledge there is no way to put a new videocard into the laptop, so I am hoping there is some way i can run games with ddraw without Wine3D???

Define pain.

Mesa3d software rendering will turn over wine. Now if you turn over a game too heavy you will basically run out of CPU.

Other issue I have seen no work to add fully functional 2d support to X11 for the SIS cards either.

http://www.winischhofer.eu/linuxsispart1.shtml#13 760 are known to be evil. So even if the 2d side works you are still going to run into hell.

I know about that driver, but the xorg "sis" driver works fine so does "vesa" both run at acceptable speeds.

Using mesa do you think it's possible to play starcraft on a 1.6GHz Turon 64?
