Running games in wine

Post by robtorbay »

Hey all im new to the forum and somewhat new to wine. I have ran wine before for running application such as Microsoft office and what not but recently i started to try and play games in Linux without using programs like Cedega. I have recently discovered that you need to install dependency's in to wine such as direct x files and what not to allow for better support while running such programs on wine. id like to ask for help and see if anyone can help add to my list of dependency's so i can run my games with a bit better performance. thanks mates i hope to hear form ya all.

To get the directx install properly, I recommend using the 1.1.7 or 1.1.8 version of wine. These work really well with modern games, including cod4. Just go to the front page to find the source code. These are the directions I used: http://www.winehq.org/site/docs/wineusr ... ine-source

If you google, you can also find another way to do it. Sorry I don't remember at the moment.

Are you asking about dependencies or dll overrides? They are not the same thing.

To avoid misunderstanding, there is no need to install directx at all.
