Hey guys, I promise I googled my butt off but only found deep linux-crack-y answers I didn't understand or very old posts that may or may not apply anymore.
I have this old exe called Pikachu Volleyball that uses a MIDI file for background music.
For the life of me I would love to make this play with Wine on a linux machine but I just can't understand why it's so hard or downright impossible.
I'm on Ubuntu and use FlatImage to pack the exe into an easy bootable file.
My ultimate goal is to import the FlatImage file into Batocera as a port so I can make a retro-present to my older brother.
I installed all the wine tricks I'm aware of.
E.g "gmdls" - General MIDI DLS Collection (Microsoft / Roland, 1999) [downloadable]
The Wiki article for MIDI files is so complex for a layman that I couldn't really get into it.
Can you please tell me if I'm missing something and if yes, what I'm missing?
My hope is that lay people like me will then stumble across this post and will find what they search for.
If you guys are fed up with this question - help me fix it and I'll try to create a video tutorial that you can link in your WIKI.
Thanks for reading!
How to make MIDI work
Re: How to make MIDI work
BUMP.
Sorry but I'm too desperate to give up yet.
Here is a reddit post. Do you think it's still valid? Didn't work for me though:
"Either way, for games on WINE you can use Fluidsynth with Windows' General MIDI soundfont:
- Install fluidsynth via sudo pacman -S fluidsynth
- Download the Windows General MIDI soundfont here and place it anywhere you like (I'd suggest anywhere in your home folder so you don't need to use sudo)
- Run fluidsynth -a pulseaudio /path/to/soundfont (add an & if you want it to run in the background, optionally find a way to make it autostart at boot so you don't have to do this every time)
- Start any Windows game in WINE and enjoy!"
Thanks!
