AIM RS3 connection to MXm via wifi
AIM RS3 connection to MXm via wifi
Hello, I am running Race Studio 3.72.21 in Wine 9.0 in Mint 22.1. The analysis part of the application works pretty well but there are graphical issues in the configuration area (I see the same thing as viewtopic.php?p=146904&hilit=race+studio) and more importantly it cannot connect to the wifi hotspots created by AIM devices such as the MXm. In windows you can see all available wifi networks and connect to the hotspots created by AIM devices from within the application. When I connect to the MXm's wifi network in the OS it still does not register as connected within RS3. Internet works fine however, I can ping google running cmd within wine and I can even download new versions of RS3 and device firmware from the internet within RS3's update page. I see no errors when launching RS3 from the terminal.

Re: AIM RS3 connection to MXm via wifi
As you probable already know, you can not access your AIM device using USB when running RS3 with wine due to it's inability to access the USB hardware directly. Similarly you can not use the default WiFi mode to communicate with your AIM device as an Access Point (one to one connection between your AIM device and your computer).
You can however use the more complicated method of WLAN (connection to an existing WiFi network). This will allow you to connect to your AIM device under wine. I have tried it with my MXG 1.2 and it does work, albeit slower than connecting directly via USB.
I just wish I could figure out the white text on white background issues in the configuration portions of RS3! It's the only app I still need to Windows for.

Re: AIM RS3 connection to MXm via wifi
Thanks, that's a good idea setting it up to connect via WLAN. I haven't been able to get that to connect to the RS3 running in wine though unfortunately. Is there something you had to configure on your linux PC's end? Windows machines running RS3 on the network can see and connect to the device just fine.

I upgraded a while back to Wine 10.0 and tried it again and now it does not work.

It appears something is very broken in the networking internals of Wine as from a windows command prompt I can not even ping my own router! And yet RS3 is able to download updates. I can't make heads or tails of that!

Still haven't been able to get it to work unfortunately. It could be a pretty useful workaround as I can always make the laptop be the wifi hotspot at the track. I'll keep messing with it and post here if I figure it out.
