Hi all, I am pretty new to this forum and App. Just installed PlayonLinux on MX Linux an installed "Steuersparerklärung 2024" - Windows software works fine.

Tried the same with the newest version "Steuersparerklärung 2025" - but failed. Any idea how to get this working?

Update: I re-installed the program with the system-installed wine version; installation ended with an error - but I can start the so called "Steuersparerklaerung-Center"; but I cant open/start any existing or new file.

Update 2: installed extensions: crypt32, vcrun2019 and FontsSmoothRGB - program "Center" starting, but able to open an existing file or create an new one from the center.
FYI - MXLinux running as a VM in Proxmox

Update 3: I have found a working solution by myself (Google and testing) now:
installed the Windows program with system version of POL - added/copied libraries from DXVK package (https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk) from the x64 folder into the program folder within POL (marked the program in POL and clicked open directory).
Added overwrites in the wine configuration for each dll in the x64 folder (not sure if that is needed).

For clarity, you have problems with 2024 and 2025? Because the linked 2024 seems to work for me.
I installed the program and got the error message you mentioned, I created a bugreport for you here: https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57537
However, then the program "SteuertippsCenter.exe" seems to start properly for me.

its a bit confusing the program ...2025 is dealing with taxes for the year 2024

- the center.exe was starting, but I cant create or open a "document" for 2024.

the program is called "SteuerSparErklärung 2025" - it handles data for the tax year 2024 - so the Center is just a starter to create a new data set or to edit an existing one.

so in the first step I was only able to start the program"SteuertippsCenter 2025" - but I wasnt able to create a new data set for 2024 or edit/open an existing one.

As already remarked here and in the bug report:

For ps1304, the original poster here, "SteuerSparErklärung 2024" works fine, and "SteuerSparErklärung 2025" fails (not sure what exactly "fails" means in this context).

Same here: I was using "SteuerSparErklärung 2024" just fine for last year's tax declaration. Trying to install "SteuerSparErklärung 2025", the installer extracts files, and then shows a message box with:

"Die Software ist mit Windows 8 nicht kompatibel!

Bitte installieren Sie zuerst eine aktuelle Windows-Version (Windows 10 64-Bit oder höher). Für Windows 8 bieten wir keinen Support mehr an."

The Windows version in Wine is set to Windows 10, also tried Windows 11.

It seems ps1304 already got a lot of further - I'm wondering if they also had the "Windows 8 not supported" error initially?

No matter which Windows version I am defining (it also does not matter if it is done via winecfg, winetricks or also verifying HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion in regedit), the installer claims that I have Windows 8 installed.

Has anyone been able to workaround this?

I am on openSUSE Leap and I installed the leatest and greatest stuff from https://download.opensuse.org/repositor ... Wine/15.6/ and I also hit the problem described by tesserakt and nikowitt.

I also gave build 30.20.17 a try and I was able to run the installation, however the installation itself ended with a failure, but the needed files already have been copied to .wine/drive_c and I was able to start SSE.exe and also the submodules I need. These submodules then claimed that a newer version is available and I started the online-update. The online update also resulted in an error, but the new files have been copied to .wine/drive_c already and now I run build 30.23.26 and the submodules relevant for me no longer report newer versions.

This, of course these are not detailed work-around-instructions, but may it helps a little.

Although, the modules claim to be uptodate, the failed installation seems to have some negative side-effects: I am not able to import anything from older versions and I am also not able to send anything via Elster.

I opened a bugreport for this, with a possible patch you could try: https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57626

But for that you'd have to compile wine yourself.

Is it known when this issue when introduced? Does an older Wine version help for this (as I'd like to avoid recompilation...)? Thanks.
Update: Downgrading to 8.0.2~jammy-1 did not help.

I don't think so unfortunately. I tried the installer with the aformentioned patch and it turns out you also need another patch to work around another bug, see comment 3 in https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57537

With that patch also applied I was able to finish the installer and start the application

I can confirm that I can successfully install Steuersparerklärung with the patches mentioned by qwertymnb. However, the installed program seems not to be fully functional, importing data from older files e.g. does not work. How can I track down the reason for this, are there any specific log messages I can look for?

Could you describe what happens if you try load old data? A messagebox, or a crash, or anything?
And paste terminal output here

First thing you might try is run with WINEDEBUG=+loaddll and see what dlls get loaded , also just before you try open the old data. Maybe winetricks can replace some of these with native dlls. If that fails too I guess you'd have to dig through debug logs like you get with WINEDEBUG=+relay,+seh.

Let me jump in here and add the missing information: When trying to import data, an empty message box appears. Also some text in the main program window is missing. So for me it seems as if some content cannot be rendered for whatever reasons. Here is a screenshot of how it looks like:

The should be some content in the message box and also in the right column of the main program window below "Hinweise zum Beginn der Eingabe".

What kind of content could it be which is rendered differently? I think in both cases it is some dynamic content: In the message box it should probably be a file selector.

From the main program you reach this situation by pressing "Datenübernahme in..." and then selecting any of the choices. For the screenshot I used the second "Gewinnermittlung 2024".

Now I was able to get the program running using "Bottles" and a sys-wine-9.0 bottle. I was even able to send a USt-Erklärung vie Elster to the financial office. You can find a description of what I did here: https://www.movetolinux.de/anwendungen/ ... erklaerung, however in German.

I don't know exactly what tweaks Bottles is adding to wine, but it seems that they picked the right ones.

Using Bottles as wrapper around wine 10.0 worked for me. But when i try to send it via Elster, the program displays the Following message: Die übergebene Datenartversion ist unbekannt oder das benötigte ERiC-Plugin wurde nicht gefunden. Beachten Sie bitte, dass die Datenartversion case-sensitive ist.

Hi all,
I successfully installed Steuersparerklärung 2025 after some problems.
Operating System: Mint 20.0
Wine-Version 10.0

These were the steps I did:
Installed Wine mono latest Version 9.4.0
Installed older Version 30.20.17 of SteuerSparerklärung 2025
System told me a mistake like couldn't install, proof your system
Looked on C: found the directory
and started SteuerTippsCenter.exe directly

The SteuerSparerklärung 2025 started without problems and it was possible to update to the newest Version 30.24
After installing again there was the message of mistake like before
Nevertheless, I could again start vom C:
All seems to function pretty well - Opening file, proofing Elster certificate
