can I use wine to install a font syncing client for Windows?

Post by yotamguttman »

I an looking for an equivalent service to Adobe Fonts since moving to Linux. I liked the service of Monotype, which offers fonts that can be synced on to the desktop to use locally from my online account. however that required their client to be installed but they only support Mac or Windows.

the software comes for Windows as a *.msix file, which I couldn't run in Wine. but is there any reason to try? would the fonts be able to be synced to the right place in my Linux OS?

Wine likely won’t handle Monotype's sync feature properly, as it relies on OS-specific services. Instead, consider alternatives like Google Fonts, Fontsource, or manually installing fonts from Monotype’s web portal if downloads are available. You can place fonts in ~/.fonts or /usr/share/fonts for system-wide use.
