What is 'development version'?

Post by anotheranne »

Hi,
Sorry for what must be a stupid question. I need to report my bug. Looking at the process I assume that this is the highest-numbered version on the download page. I see nothing explicitly labelled 'development version'.

Since my updated Manjaro version of Wine shows as 9.16 I assume that I should install and build from the latest available as per above.

As I look now this is 9.21 so am I correct here that I need to download that and, assuming that the bug is still apparent, then submit my bug from that.

Thanks
Ian

go to

https://www.winehq.org/

you will see something like

Code: Select all

Stable :
Wine 9.0 (changements)
Développement :
Wine 9.21 (changements)
it is self explanatory I think

so you may install

wine-stable
9.0

as of november 2024, with more bugs fixes

or

wine-devel
9.21

wine-devel as of november 2024, with more recent fixes

as I am a maverick I use wine-devel

Thanks.
As this is on a daily-use machine I will install the new version on a separate laptop, probably this coming weekend.

Reasonable choice

FYI I have never had any issue with wine-devel

Sorry for delay in reporting back.

I installed the development version on the laptop and, all has been well ever since. Pegasus Mail has never run so well. In the meantime the laptop has been fried :( so i must redo the process on the daily-use machine while we recover or replace the laptop.

Thank you for all the input.
