Wine-stable cannot be installed; no such package
Wine-stable cannot be installed; no such package
I am running a Linux Mint 22 OS, and Wine Stable build cannot be installed due to that it's not able to "locate" package.
All listed instructions were followed, so I do not know what else I can do.
The Wine version, as of December 13, 2024, that I am trying to install, was Wine 9.0.
Could this be because 10 is coming soon?

Re: Wine-stable cannot be installed; no such package
There are no stable packages in our repository for noble because noble was not yet released when 9.0 came out, and there were no updates to the stable branch this past year. We will have stable packages for noble when 10.0 comes out in January. FYI, the distro wine packages are 9.0.

Thank you for your reply.
Now I know.
Many thanks!

Re: Wine-stable cannot be installed; no such package
I was about to ask the same question...
So, there are no noble release packages... what do I do about it? Why can't someone (in the know) create them? Or, if that isn't going to happen, what do I do in the meantime if I NEED wine on Ubuntu 24.04?
Thanks in advance!
Fred

Re: Wine-stable cannot be installed; no such package
I have the same problem here. just updated 22.04 to 24.04 and Ubuntu in its wisdom deleted all my wine packages. Ubuntu has a wine package but it appears to be just a placeholder, doesn't actually install anything useful.
Until 10 becomes available for noble, what you suggest I do (other than wait)?? I'm under a lot of pressure to get this working.
Thanks!

Re: Wine-stable cannot be installed; no such package
is there a date for release set yet?
Re: Wine-stable cannot be installed; no such package
thanks, got what I need to work, working on "staging", so now I can hope for some martial bliss!
Thanks!
Fred

Thanks!

Re: Wine-stable cannot be installed; no such package
Hi,
Is it known when Wine v10 stable packages for Ubuntu noble are coming?

Re: Wine-stable cannot be installed; no such package
I am trying to install Wine-stable (noble) to Ubuntu 24.04 with KDE Wayland 5.27.12 and I keep getting the same message
```The following packages have unmet dependencies:
winehq-stable : Depends: wine-stable (= 10.0.0.0~noble-1)```
it is March 1st 2025 now and I thought noble was due out in January. Any help?
Re: Wine-stable cannot be installed; no such package
If you actually bothered to read the message you posted you might notice that it does not say "no such package." The stable packages are in the repository. The problem you are having is a dependency issue. Follow the instructions in https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/wine/-/w ... stall-wine.DeepFrequency wrote: ↑Sat Mar 01, 2025 11:23 pm I am trying to install Wine-stable (noble) to Ubuntu 24.04 with KDE Wayland 5.27.12 and I keep getting the same message
Re: Wine-stable cannot be installed; no such package
As per above post I did get this working.
BUT...
now when doing a software update on that system we are getting these errors (and the existing programs using wine now aren't working...):
what controls whether it is looking for release, staging or other? I installed staging, why is it trying to install release?Reading package lists... Done
E: The repository 'https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/dists noble Release' does not have a Release file.
N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default.
N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.
N: Missing Signed-By in the sources.list(5) entry for 'https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/dists'
I've looked at the PPA definitions and don't see the problem.
I'd appreciate advice on how to solve this so it won't keep happening.
Thanks in advance!
