Using the ntsync driver in wine

Post by stefan »

Hello,
as there is the first part of the "ntsync" driver already in the mainline kernel and therefore seems to be the future, and also kernel builds available with full ntsync driver included (like xanmod), how do I make use of it in wine? Does wine use it automatically? Do I need to set some environment variable or is it only available in a special build? If so, are there any packages available for Ubuntu 24.04 or a build script that works on Ubuntu?

I do have an application that while it works without a problem, it is a lot slower than on Windows and I would like to check if this could help to increase performance, as some benchmarks suggests ntsync can improve the speed of same games significantly. The application I'm interested in is not a game, but CASSY Lab 2: It's a scientific/educational application that interfaces with measurement devices and can do some basic data visualization and analysis. The manufacturer even provides a Linux installer, which is basically a script that will compile a helper application, create a wine prefix and download/install the Windows version)

Best regards
Stefan
