err:system:update_display_cache Failed to read display config

Post by dieter-erich »

Hi,
I have been using wine for a while without problems. Now I installed wine 9.0 on a new Ubuntu-24.04 box and, after some tinkering, got it to show the usual lines when starting without any parameter. However, whatever windows program, for example "notepad" I try, in this case with "wine notepad.exe" I receive a list of messages like these:

0024:err:system:update_display_cache Failed to read display config.
0024:err:system:update_display_cache Failed to read display config.
0024:err:system:update_display_cache Failed to read display config.
0024:err:system:update_display_cache Failed to read display config.
0024:err:system:update_display_cache Failed to read display config.
0024:err:system:update_display_cache Failed to read display config.

Please note that I do not have a display connected to this PC, I rather access it with AnyDesk. On the longer run I
want to use the installation to monitor humidity and temperature by using old sensors usually read out with a windows program. I know that they also work with wine from previous experience.
Thank you very much for hints!

Finally, I connected a display and rebooted the box. Now everything is working correctly. I have no clue about the reason for this behavior. Maybe the absence of a display? Anyhow, thanks to all who at least read my post and pondered about this ......
