Hey everyone,
I've been tinkering around with the experimental Wayland driver that's available with Wine-Staging. I've been using it to play Final Fantasy 14 (FFXIV) and so far have been quite content with the stability of it; it sometimes crashes at startup, but never again if it manages to launch successfully... Unless I leave it on an unfocused workspace for longer than roughly 30 seconds. It doesn't necessarily "crash", but it throws an error that my connection was lost and yanks me back to the title screen. I've read on a few other sites (reddit, github etc.) that similar problems are present with other games as well and the reason behind this being the fact that once the workspace (and hence the client) becomes unfocused, rendering of the game will cease. Apparently, no frames rendered lets FFXIV think that I have lost my connection to the internet (while the music will happily continue to play in the background!").
There were some suggestions Online with setting enviroment variables which didn't work for me unfortunately. Maybe someone has been able to find a solution for this "issue" (I know that this is mainly part of the Wayland Protocol's design)? Or at least a hint towards how to effectively debug this issue? It's not happening when run under xwayland, so there appears to be some way to work around this.
Would appreciate to hear some other thoughts or other experiences on this!
Cheers,
EndlessWay
