Running Pegasus Mail removes the desktop panel

Post by anotheranne »

Hello.

Wine 9.15
Manjaro 24.0 with xfce desktop

Pegasus Mail has run on my desktop for many years, generally OK, but after a recent system update it now removes the desktop panel on loading. Without firing up Pegasus all is OK. When it is running there are various flakey operations. We can receive, send, read and compose emails, but access to other programs is limited without the panel, and windows so opened lack simple tools like resizing, moving, etc..

Maybe I should uninstall and reinstall Pegasus? Or Wine? I am assuming that a new install somewhere would resolve the issues. I am just wondering what would be the preferred way to go about this.

I can read the Wiki and am able to follow guidelines, but am not really experienced with Wine and do not want to tinker and break things unnecessarily while floundering around.

I am surprised at what has happened, I didn't think that Wine interacted in such a way as to cause this sort of behaviour.

Thanks in advance.

Hi.

Further to the above I installed Wine and Pegasus Mail on another machine, also up to date with Manjaro. Same result, unuseable.

However, after some RTFM work I deleted Wine, cleaned out everything, and reinstalled Wine. Then I installed a new 32-bit wineprefix and installed Pegasus Mail in that (never ever done this to my memory).

We are up and running again on the second machine. It even prints emails which is something that has not worked for many years. I must now do this on the main machine.

I think there are still some issues, it crashes under various provocations, but I will isolate them one by one with a view to sorting Pegasus fully.

Hi,

Not many people running Pegasus these days, I guess, although a 64-bit version and other upgrades are in the works. It also shows a new option during the install for gmail fans.

I installed Pegasus again on the main desktop machine, using a 32-bit wineprefix as before. Same hassles as before. So (as before, but not mentioned above) I used the uninstaller in winetricks and deleted the "IE Renderer" which comes with Pegasus and gets installed whether you like it or not. Since it has been flakey for a long time (under wine) I uninstalled that and hey presto we are back up and running with no interference to Xfce artifacts. Short of restoring the email data we are back in a good place for now. Note, the IE Renderer is supposed to offer improved support for HTML emails

I'll do that restore tomorrow. This post will probably end this thread. For future non-related issues I will start new threads.
