Can't run Warcraft III
Can't run Warcraft III
Hi,
I've just installed Warcraft III without any problem (so it seems), but when I go to run it I just get a black screen. My computer doesn't freeze but obviously the application isn't running correctly. What could I do to get Warcraft III to work properly?
I'm using Linux Mint, kernel 2.6.24-16-generic and wine 1.0
Thanks in advance!

Did you check appdb on warcraftIII there is a lot of information there.

-Yes
-I just tried that, same results as before though
-I checked it out earlier but I'll look through it again to see if I can find anything.
Thanks for your response.

If you use a battle.net launcher to play on a pvpgn server you need to
set the OpenGL mode setting in the registry (see appdb).
If you install the 1.22 patch you need install some recent version of
the MS Visual C++ runtimes... (Check appdb for details....)
You might want to keep Warcraft in a seperate WINEPREFIX if you have
any DLL overrides on your system...

Mine currently work fine with the only issues being a occasional flash
on the screen and some minor graphical issues... (I have the Intel
GMA3100)

Someone will probably recommend that you upgrade Wine as well, but
this should not be necessary, although you would probably want to
compile a patched version (or a really old version) if you plan to do
any kind of network play under Wine.

same thing with the deleted Movies folder
update:
i have tried two video card drivers (the EnvyNG and the restricted driver version). the Envy version is not only flickering but my whole screen looks like a chess board. the restricted is just flickering.
P.S. the openGL is activated in the registry and i want to use it for single player (99% of time)

2. Install Frozen Throne (if applicable)
3. Install patch 1.22_a_ (IIRC The "a" variant removes the dependency

5. Edit registry (see below for file from appdb) (Manual editing is
probably easier...)

I have no DLL overrides and only Warcraft installed in that
WINEPREFIX. It does not look if vcrun2005 is installed.

cross-distro way of checking Intel driver versions?) (I'm running

@ricy
That should be caused by the same bug I reported some times ago:
http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16084
Btw, as far as I know, there is no proprietary driver for intel video chipsets. Everyone is using xf86-video-intel.
