New Wine 9.0 stable, 32bit and OpenGL problems

Post by F_style »

So I just read that latest stable release ow uses the "new WOW64" thing, which implies default 64bit profiles can now run 32bit applications, at cost of broken OpenGL support and 16bit support discontinued...

Also, that packages from package managers no longer ship -32bit versions of the Wine packages, so one cannot revert to the old functionality unless sticking with a previous distro version...

Do you plan to eventually fix OpenGL support and return 16bit support with the new WOW64?
I know 16 and 32bit are already discontinued, but many people still needs those old software for a number of reasons, and Wine was one of the last resources to run them

Thanks.

Could some mod/admin/dev help with this, please?
I think it is important.

Thanks.

There was a discussion of some of the shortcomings of the new WoW64 on the developer's mailing list back in January. https://www.winehq.org/mailman3/hyperki ... ort=thread

Although it would be a shame for Wine to drop 16-bit, you can always run multiple versions of Wine side-by-side using seperate wineprefixes. If the app runs in an old Wine, you can keep it around.
