If I play games in Windows, I can Alt-Tab out of the game. In Wine, I can't do this. I want to be able to Alt-Tab instead of exiting the game. This is practical on, for example, LAN.
but if you use gnome (ie ubuntu) you can go System -> Preferences -> Keyboard Shortcut -> (under) Window Management and see what corresponds to "hide all windows and focus at desktop" function, or change it to whatever you want

I'm guessing the game is all that is open at the moment. You can't alt+tab if nothing is open. Best thing to do is assign a shortcut to show the desktop (I use meta+m, the equivalent of "minimize all windows" in Windows).
i can alt tab if other windows are open but the resolution stays at the game resolution (some ridiculous low res since it is old game. Any way to fix this? I am on ubuntu 8.04, gnome
It always does this, as far as I know there is no "fix" because this is standard behaviour... You could file a request to have it supported in Bugzilla I guess? It doesn't sound like such a bad idea.

Have you tried running the game in a virtual desktop?
thanks for the tip, not exactly what I was looking for but helps. I wanted full screen for my game so a virtual desktop doenst help. However the game it self can play at my desktops resolution, only in the multiplayer chat rooms it is low resolution. Hence ur tip does hep in this game!
btw slightly off topic: how do u alt-tab between programs running isnide a virtual desktop in wine? eg alt tab between a game and teamspeak?
