Wine in main menu - Linux Mint / Cinnamon

Post by Zebop917 »

I have some issues with Wine installation on a new PC that I'm setting up. It's running Linux Mint 21.3 with Cinnamon desktop. The system package in the Mint repositories is 6.0.3 but I have also followed the instructions to install the latest wine-stable version 9.0. I get the same issue in each case. After install, there is no Wine menu item in the main start menu. In previous installations on a different PC, the Wine menu would at least show options to Add/remove software, configure Wine etc.

I can manually edit a menu entry and create menu items to do those tasks. I can then use Add/remove to install one of my required Windows apps (Exact Audio Copy). However, this fails to create a menu item to then run the app. I'm curious as to why I have these problems on the new PC as my old installation is also Mint 21.3/Cinnamon.

Linux Mint has a package that installs all necessary Wine packages including menu entries. Install wine-installer.

Or install wine-desktop-files to get only the menu entries.
