Hi, im having troubles launching winetricks.

someoen told me in the reborn server im launching wine32? if so.

cause im trying to install age of mythology game that has multi dvds.

also, after updating. i click on winetricks and it says: "unkown file arch".

Fellow user here. I know on debian you have to enable multiarchitecture to convert the system to support 64 bit and 32 bit applications. I don't know if that's your issue, but I would check if Arch has a similar mechanism. Sorry if it doesn't apply or help in your situation.

i guess arch has a different system.

Of course I understand differences between distribution in almost everything, but currently I'm playing Age of Mythology through plain wine and I do not remember using winetricks for this game. Also, even that on appdb its suggested to use 32-bit prefix (as this game is 32-bit) I'm on 64-bit and all seems fine.

Not at all ... well, winetricks many times is quite helpful, but many times its completely not necessary. As I mentioned, I do not remember needing to use winetricks for Age of Mythology which I playing currently.

Not at all ... well, winetricks many times is quite helpful, but many times its completely not necessary. As I mentioned, I do not remember needing to use winetricks for Age of Mythology which I playing currently.

im still new to linux, lol. been learning quite a bit. still trying to figured it out on the gaming side of things of what i need or don't need.

Geez, I forgot about this pidgen.dll problem. So it looks like winetricks would be handy :/
Well, without winetricks you have options:
- if you have Age of Empires Gold Edition, there is a script for PlayOnLinux that should nicely istall and setup everything for you
- if its not Gold Edition, you still can use PlayOnLinux but you would need to choose "Install additionl libraries" and apply mfc42
- I do not know lutris, but I would guess that it also should automate everything, I will try later today to install AoM through lutris to see how it goes
- other options anyone else will share

yeah, i had this problem for awhile. even used bottles. it still shows there. lutris, has an issue with not loading the second cd.

sounds like i need to use playonlinux. will playonlinux work with the version that i have?i have a disc 1 and 2. i dont have the gold edition sadly.

PlayOnLinux will work with everything, you just will have to manually install what you want. The scripts that are available just automate the process of installation/patching/winetrick'ing and whatever. In your case I think you will need only to choose mfc42 in "Install additionl libraries" option, the rest of the process should be straightforward. I have to go now, but I will try to install AoM on PlayOnLinux later to see how it goes.

But meanwhile I checked this lutris and with my AoM (Gold Edition, 3 CD version) it installed and when the Play button showed up, I could start the game fine. But there is some quirk with the installation process so it does not finish cleanly and I have to brute force closing the process. The effect is that the shortcut of AoM does not show in the GUI, so I have no idea how to run the game yet. When something like this happens in PlayOnLinux, its easy to get "inside" the prefix and get the shortcut into the GUI manually. I guess in Lutris its possible also, but I have to dig more later.

Its not Lutris issue. Its linux pathology. As I really love linux, the handling of cd/dvd in linux is a pure pathology. I have never managed to install multi cd/dvd game through wine (despite trying "wine eject", "eject -m" or anything else I found). What I do in those cases:
- I copy all the files from all cd/dvd's into some folder and do an installation from this folder. In case of Age of Mythology I put all 3 cd's into one folder and then I burned this folder on DVD, so I install it from this DVD
- if somehow the above does not work, I try to find a pirate version of the game

So, try to put all the files from your 2 cd's into some folder on you hard drive and then install through Lutris/PlayOnLinux from this folder

I have not managed to create a Age of Mythology binary shortcut in Lutris GUI, so the game installed, but is not accesible. And I think its impossible, and all you could try is something like this:

creating a "normal" shortcut to the AoM binary and run from this shortcut, but I have not even tried this as PlayOnLinux seems better option.

I've managed to manually install my Gold Edition there. All I had to do was to choose POL_Install_mfc42 in "Install additionl libraries" (this takes care of the pidgen.dll problem)
Just one note, when the installation finishes and the "Play" button is visible, run the game pressing this "Play" button and accept the licence and then right away exit the game from the main menu. You will go back to PlayOnLinux and it will ask you what binary to create a shortcut for so select "aom.exe"
And thats it, now when you will double click this shortcut in PlayOnLinux GUI it will start the game.

sounds like playonlinux is very simple method compared to lutris and bottles, lol.

Nope. Just create one folder, then copy content of cd1 to this folder and then copy content of cd2 to the same folder. When copying cd2 you can have one or two files with the same name as on cd1, so just overwrite them. And then, install the game from this folder.
It must work this way for you too, as my Gold Edition has expansion The Titans on a seperate cd (number 3) so my cd1 and cd2 must be exactly the same as your not Gold Edition version, especially, that publisher of my version is also Ubisoft, so it should be really the same.
