Using Dr Kawashima Brain Training from an ISO file ?

Post by loloof64 »

Hi,

I'm trying to run the game "Dr Kawashima - Brain stimulation" from my Ubuntu system. This game is "self-hosted" on a CD-ROM : it does not need to install it.

So I've created an ISO file from the original CD-ROM, as my new computer has no CD drive, and installed almost all fonts, as well as vcrun2012 and ffshow from Winetricks.

So I've mounted the iso to the folder /mnt/iso.

But when I go into /mnt/iso and run

Code: Select all

wine Brain.exe
I get an error saying that there is no disc.

Code: Select all

wine Brain.exe
007c:fixme:hid:handle_IRP_MN_QUERY_ID Unhandled type 00000005
007c:fixme:hid:handle_IRP_MN_QUERY_ID Unhandled type 00000005

Meanwhile, what I've set to red from the output above, may be important.
The z-volume was not mapped to my iso folder.

So, as a last attempt, I tried, from winecfg, to set the z-drive to /mnt/iso.

But this time the error is quite different :

Code: Select all

wine Brain.exe

0084:fixme:wineusb:query_id Unhandled ID query type 0x5.
Application could not be started, or no application associated with the specifie
d file.
ShellExecuteEx failed: File not found.
So is there a way to resolve my runnning issue ?

I forgot to say that

* I mounted the iso with the command

Code: Select all

sudo mount -o loop ~/Documents/Isos/DrKawashima_Stimulation_Cerebrale.iso /mnt/iso
* my system is Ubuntu 22.04 64 bits
* my wine version is wine-8.0

Hi, just a fellow user here. I wonder if you have to add anything to the "Drives" tab in winecfg? Maybe not, just thinking out loud.

You could also try to mount the iso with CDEMU.

Hi, thank you very much for your answers.

*) Indeed, I tried with setting the iso folder to Z: with winecfg (see the last section of my first post), but it did not work.
*) Thank you also jkfloris : I'll have a look at CDEMU and try again with it

Dang, sorry. I remember I had to do that with Diablo II back in the day and it worked, but it was an actual cd drive, not an iso image.

No problem invisible kid.

So I've installed CDEMU and setup the iso to be recognized as a cd-rom.

*) The good news is that wine detects it as a real CD-ROM, as I've been able to see in the winecfg program
*) The bad news is that it still fails to run the program : I've got a graphical error from the program saying that the disk is not the good one. (Maybe because of the disc serial ? And also because of the disk name ?)

Here the terminal output :

Code: Select all

Code: Select all

010c:err:wgl:init_opengl Failed to load libGL: libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
In any case, you are missing the libgl1:i386 package

Code: Select all

sudo apt install libgl1:i386

Thank you very much : so I've installed libgl1 for i386, but it did not work either. Anyway, one more error fixed :) .

I am trying to reproduce the problem, but with the version of Dr. Kawashima Brain Training I can find online everything works when I install the Arial font.

Is this the game you want to play, or are there other versions?
