WINEHQ package for Ubuntu 18.04 (bionic) still at 8.5

Post by fallenguru »

This has happened before occasionally; I assume it failed to build for some reason?

If so, there's no bug, that I can find. Should I file one?

Is the build status for the official WINE packages publicly accessible somewhere? I'd like to be in the loop.

Packages are built here:
https://build.opensuse.org/project/show ... ine:Debian

Unfortunately, I can't tell you why there are no wine-devel packages created for Bionic.

Bionic is EOL; there will be no more packages for it.

That's a shame, I have to stick with it for a few more months (on Ubuntu Pro). Well, thanks for telling me, anyway. (Where) was this announced?

As long as a distribution is supported by Ubuntu, packages are made for it. For example, the new Wine stable 8.0.1 packages are available for Bionic.
Unfortunately, building the 32-bit Wine 8.6 packages for Bionic fails. Since Bionic is only supported by Ubuntu until May 31, I expect that fixing the build problem is no longer worth the effort.

Ubuntu 18.04 (bionic) is supported until 2028 via Ubuntu Pro, which is free for private use.

Do you know what fails, and how?
Because when I built it from git some two days ago (native 64-bit build, plus two 32-bit ones in a chroot to go with it) the result looked ok? The source package provided for 20.04 (focal) also builds unmodified on my system.

Don't get me wrong, I realise that there has to be cut-off point, and the end of mainstream support makes a lot of sense—I'd have preferred for packages to be generated until the end of the current development cycle or until there's a non-trivial problem with building them, that is all. It's not like I expect support for wine-devel anyway (that's what Crossover is for). My interaction with the WINE team consists of reporting a bug now and then.

I can't find build logs on the Open Build Service.
Perhaps @dimesio can give more information about it.

As long as you can successfully build Wine, there is no problem creating bug reports. The only thing is that WineHQ no longer makes ready-to-use packages.
